American Heart Association Courses

1st Response Safety provides CPR, First Aid and AED courses designed by the American Heart Association.  All classes are taught using the American Heart Association's "Practice While Watching" format to ensure maximum hands on time with training mannequins.  Our instructors are experienced Emergency Medical Service providers who bring their real world experience to your training class.


Advanced Cardiac Life Support (ACLS) Course

 

ACLS is an advanced, instructor-led classroom course that highlights the importance of team dynamics and communication, systems of care and immediate post-cardiac arrest care. It also covers airway management and related pharmacology.  In this course, skills are taught in large, group sessions and small, group learning and testing stations where case-based scenarios are presented.

Course Length:

Initial Provider Course 10-12 hours (1-2 Days)

Renewal Course 5-6 hours (1 Day)

Intended Audience

ACLS is designed for health care professionals who either direct or participate in the management of cardiopulmonary arrest and other cardiovascular emergencies.  This includes personnel in emergency response, emergency medicine, intensive care and critical care units.

BLS Healthcare Providers Course

 

The BLS for Healthcare Providers Course covers core material such as adult and pediatric CPR (including two-rescuer scenarios and use of the bag mask), foreign-body airway obstruction, and automated external defibrillation.

Course Length: Approximately 4 hours

Intended Audience
For healthcare providers such as EMS personnel, physician assistants, doctors, dentists, nurses, and respiratory therapists who must have a credential (card) documenting successful completion of a CPR course.

Cost:  $60 for individual

Skills Check Off for AHA Online Courses

 

The American Heart Association provides students an opportunity to learn CPR and First Aid online then have a certified AHA Instructor verify your skills.  ave prior CPR training. This program recognizes that healthcare professionals have knowledge and skills acquired from prior CPR training and years of patient care.

Once you have completed the online portion of the course, contact us to schedule a skills evaluation.  After you have completed both sections of the course, you will be issued an American Heart Association certification card.  Visit www.onlineaha.org for more details.

Heartsaver Pediatric First Aid

 

The Heartsaver Pediatric First Aid Course teaches how to manage illness and injuries in a child in the first few minutes until professional help arrives. Topics include First Aid Basics, Medical Emergencies, Injury Emergencies, Environmental Emergencies, and CPR and AED.

Course Length:  Approximately 5 hours

Intended Audience
For those involved in child care who have a duty to respond to a first aid emergency because of job responsibilities or regulatory requirements, such as child care workers, teachers, foster care workers, camp counselors, youth organizations, and coaches for children’s sports organizations.

Cost:  $70 for individual

Heartsaver First Aid with CPR/AED

 

The Heartsaver First Aid Course teaches how to manage illness and injuries in the first few minutes until professional help arrives.  Course content includes General Principles, Medical Emergencies, and Injury Emergencies and Environmental Emergencies.  Course includes CPR and AED certification.

Course Length:  Approximately 5 hours

Intended Audience

For those who have a duty to respond to a first aid or cardiac emergency because of job responsibilities or regulatory requirements

Cost:  $70 for individual

Heartsaver CPR AED

 

The Heartsaver CPR AED Course teaches CPR, AED use, relief of choking in adults and children, and infant CPR and relief of choking, and use of barrier devices for all ages.

Course Length:  Approximately 3  hours.

Intended Audience
For those who have a duty to respond to a cardiac emergency because of job responsibilities or regulatory requirements.

Cost:  $50 for individual

Heartsaver Bloodborne Pathogens Course

 

This course is designed to meet Occupational Safety and Health Administration (OSHA) requirements for bloodborne pathogens training when paired with site-specific instruction.

The American Heart Association’s course uses the PACT acronym (Protect, Act, Clean, Tell) and slogan, “Make a PACT, Know How to Act,” to help students learn and easily recall bloodborne pathogens training

Students learn how to:
•  Protect themselves from exposure to bloodborne pathogens 

•  Act when exposed to blood or blood-containing materials in the workplace

•  Clean themselves and the area when exposed to blood or blood-containing materials in the workplace 

•  Tell or report any exposure to blood or blood-containing materials in the workplace

Course Length:  Approximately 1 hour.

Intended Audience
The course is for anyone with a reasonable chance of coming into contact with bloodborne pathogens (BBP), primarily in the workplace. 

Cost:  $25 for individual with a minimum of 5 students.  This course may be combined with other courses.
